 Its no longer business as usual for journalists who sit down to write junk about celebrities in order to sell their magazines and papers, as was discovered by Michael Alonge, a reporter with Global Excellence who spent several days behind bars! He was reportedly picked up for questioning by the Police for allegedly attempting to defame the character of Nollywood actress, Ini Edo.
In a story that has been making the rounds on the internet in previous weeks, Mr Alonge had published stories that the actress had engaged in a lesbian relationship with Tonto Dike, another Nollywood actress. When Ini’s husband, Philip Ehiagwina called him to ask where he got the story from, the journalist went on to publish another story that Ini’s husband had threatened his life and if anything happened to him,(Alonge) he should be asked!
Based on that, the actress and her husband decided to report the matter to the Police who invited him for questioning. During interrogation Mr Alonge confessed that he could not substantiate his story as he just heard some people saying it at a joint where he was drinking, so he decided to go ahead and publish it in his paper!
Meanwhile, this same journalist was arrested the previous week on instruction by Actor, Jim Iyke and locked up for writing that he had pregnated a married woman who later turned out to have AIDS!! A story that was said to be false!
A retraction later written by the journalist apologizing for writing both stories!
