The organisers have not given an explanation about what went wrong but there have been rumours of cashflow problems, a split in the management team, embezzlement and a lack of proper planning. We have been unable to confirm any of these from the organisers. Some of the top performers advertised such as D'Banj, didn't show up and neither did Genevieve Nnaji who was advertised as the show's co-host. The show itself was over in just an hour and left a lot of people feeling like they had been ripped off especially those that forked out £50 for VIP seats. Nevertheless, there were still great perfomances from JJC and Big Brothaz with 'WE ARE AFRICANS', and a Fela Anikulap Kuti tribute band treating the crowd to 'WATER NO GET ENEMY'.

There has been so much controversy surrounding the greatly disappointing O2 African Music Awards held in London on Friday, the 15th of October 2010. The show, previously billed for the 12,500 capacity Wembley Arena was suddenly moved to a smaller Central Hall in Westminster without any explanation at all. A few people that I spoke to at the event had to pay twice as their tickets purchased for the first event were no longer valid.
