The maide n edition of the Ghana Movie Awards has come and gone and folks won't forget in a hurry. Popular actor, Majid Michel won the best actor award at the event. He emerged winner over colleagues Senanu Gbedawu, J.O.T Agyemang, Prince Osei, Eddie Nartey, Van Vicker and Ruffy Samuel who were all nominees.
His role in the movie ‘The Beast’ won him the award at the Dome of the International Conference Centre on December 25. The expectant crowd shouted his name from every corner of the foyer as he was finally named by veteran Actor, David Dontoh. Majid expressed his profound gratitude to his fans, family and organizers of the event after he picked up the award on stage. The award came with a car prize.
However the Best Actress could not be named immediately because four persons were in a row for the Award for starring in the same Movie, ‘Foreplay’. They were Jackie Appiah, Yvonne Okoro, Roselyn Ngissah and Juliet Ibrahim. A jury is to decide who wins the car as the ultimate prize. Jackie Appiah picked an Award for the Best Actress in a Leading Role in English, whilst Rose Mensah a.k.a Kyeiwaa, picked the same Award in the Local Language category.
The man Kofi Adu, popularly known as Agya Koo was also crowned Best Actor in a Leading role in the local language category. Nadia Buari also picked the Award for the Best Actress in a Supporting role, English Category. John Dumelo picked the same Award in the Men’s category for his role in the movie’ ‘The Game’. Yvonne Nelson picked the Award as Ghana’s Most Favorite Actress.
More surprising was the naming of Kofi Adjorlolo as the Most Favorite Actor who beat Majid, Agya Koo, Prince David, John Dumelo and Senanu Gbwedao. It was obvious that voting had only gone the way of Adjorlolo. Nigeria’s Genevieve Nnaji was present at the occasion alongside Segun Arinze and Uti of Big Brother Fame. Genevieve picked an Award for the Best West Africa Collaboration in the movie ‘Silent Scandal’. The same Award for the Male category went to Uti of Big Brother Fame.
Sinking Sands picked an Award as the Best Movie, African Collaboration.
The Best Art Direction went to Leila Djansi, Director of the movie ‘Sinking Sands’.
Leila Djansi’s Sinking Sands also picked the Award for the Best Picture.
The Discovery of the Year Award went to the little girl who starred in the movie ‘Trinity’.
Afra Marley of the movie ‘Trinity’ picked the Award for Best Editing.
Barry Isa Quaye picked the Best Visual Effects Award for the movie, ‘Flash Fever’.
The Award for Best Directing in the Local Language Category went to Frank Gharbin for the Movie ‘Ama Ghana’.
The Best Directing Award for the English category went to Shirley Frimpong Manso for the movie, ‘A Sting in a Tale’.
The Award for Best Writing – Adapted or Original Screenplay also went to Shirley Frimpong Manso for the movie, ‘A Sting in a Tale’.
The Award for the Best Actress in a Supporting Role Local Language Category went to Nana Ama McBrown for her role in the Movie, ‘Madam Moke’.
The Award for the Best Actor in a Supporting Role Local Language Category went to Clement Bonney A.K.A. Mr. Beautiful, for his role in the Movie ‘Ama Ghana’. Some other interesting pics from the event;
