Nollywood, 'the little engine that could' continues to grew and flourish, inspiring those from other nationalities to do same.  We have heard of Kannywood (Hausa movies) Gollywood (films from Ghana) Ugawood (films from Uganda) Riverwood (films from Kenya) Even Joziwood (films by South African Township Blacks) It seems there is a new variant! Dare I call it 'Akatawood'! lol  For those not in the know 'Akata' is a yoruba term that is used to describe Blacks in Diaspora. Its not a derogatory word, please! But is just used to describe the fact that the person is black but is from overseas (usually Europe and America) and so may have a culture and experience different from those in Africa.

Anyway, as I was saying, there is a new variant of Nollywood in the Diaspora. It was started amongst Nigerians in Diaspora (mainly U.S.A) and it has been discovered they have a growing film community there with their major stars, actors, producers, marketers etc.  All completely independent of the mainstream Nollywood which is based both in Lagos and Asaba. Recently they have been reaching out to the major stars here in Nigeria so we have films where  half is shot in Nigeria and the other half is shot in the U.S. Sometimes depending on the story, the whole film is shot in the U.S.

One of such films is 'This is Houston' starring Ini Edo who acted with other Nollywood USA-based names like JJ Bunny, Pascal Atuma, Rex Otuka, Hassanatu Sana Kanu, Ginnefine Kizzy Kanu, GiGi Kouston, Cynthia Masasi etc.  It was written, produced and co-directed by Joy Orie aka JJ Bunny in Houston, Texas.  This movie was directed by Alister Aguster and Kyle Lamar of HD Publication.

Others have been Rebound which featured Desmond Elliot (who also directed) Uche Jombo, Van Vicker, Jessica Isiguzo (who is also the Executive-producer). The film has since been premiered and is soon going to be released on dvd.
