New films to hit the market are ‘Midnight Whispers’ & ‘Idomo’ (Temptation). They were Executive produced by Morris Sesay & Ginnefine Kanu and produced by Morris & Emem Isong. In a recent chat with Morris in Lagos, he intimated Bola Aduwo of Nollywooduncut about what the movie was about. ‘Idomo’ & ‘Midnight Whispers’ are the same film but one was shot in English and the other in Ibibio language. I produced them with Emem Isong and my colleague Ginnefine Kanu. The story is about a house-help that came to work for a young couple but they discovered she was more than who she presented herself to be. In the Ibibio version, Nse Ikpe Etim played the house-help. Ime Bishop Umoh played the Gate man and Ini Edo and Moses Armstrong played the couple while in the English version, Clem Ohaneze and Ini Edo acted as the couple, Ginnefine Kanu was the house-help, Bishop was the gateman and I played the junior brother of Clem Ohaneze. And what was the movie like? ‘It is scary and funny at the same time. I don’t want to reveal too much about the movie so get your copy when it gets out.
Morris with Clem Ohaneze and Ginnefine Kanu And what has Morris been up to since we spoke last? Several things; I have executive produced two films, ‘ Spellbound’ & ‘Fire Brand’ which have been released, though in the American market. We will soon release them in Nigeria. I have shot other films; ‘Frozen’ and ‘Believe’. Those will also be hitting the market soon. And you acted in them? Yes, I did. So is Morris more of an Actor or a producer? I am a Businessman! (General laughter) I’m a lover of the Arts. I love Nollywood. I love contributing to the film industry in Africa so that’s why I do what I do.
Morris and Ini Edo in 'Midnight Whispers' So what’s the film industry like in Sierra Leone (His native country)? It’s growing…. Its getting bigger and better. Hope its not called Sollywood or anything like that. I think it is actually! (laughter) Nooooo! (more laughter). So are you related to Isha Sesay of CNN? I get that all the time but no I am not. But she is from Sierra leone? Yes but grew up in the U.K. her father was very popular in Sierra leone.
Morris flanked by Memry Savanhu & Ginnefine Kanu So what’s Sierra Leone like? I mean apart from the War which happened years back, how is life there generally? Is it similar to Nigeria? Sierra leone is great! Everything is back to normal but you know I live more in the United States now. Yes I do. I was just wondering how similar we were as West African countries, English being our lingua franca. We are basically the same, really. We eat fufu, cassava, rice like they do here. We like to enjoy life. I noticed! And you’re a very good dancer! You do the ‘makossa’ quite well. Its an African thing. Everyone knows how to wind their waist. Erm... I think the angels were on lunch break when it was time to give me the ‘dancing gene’! (general laughter) No. Everyone can dance. I can teach you. For real? Okay, that’s a promise. When next I catch you and there is music, we hit the dance floor. No wahala! (laughter)
Go grab your copy of SpellBound, Idomo & Midnight Whispers as they hit the market soon! Trailers coming out soon.
