The House of Adjeiwaah is an up and coming fashion House founded in April 2011 by the creative UK based Ghanaian designer Abena Adjei. Despite being a newly established fashion house, it is rapidly becoming a regular at top london shows. What makes her work stand out is her ingenious use of traditional African print material in a way often described as a fusion of excitement, bursting with fresh colours and flirty, edgy shapes.
The House of Adjeiwaah designs are a Concoction of various attitudes ranging from soft sophisticated elegance to rugged edgy punk. Abena developed a keen interest in design at the age of ten, inspired by the beautiful African prints sold by her mother. In her own words,” Fashion to the designer is not just about the attire, but rather, a platform through which she is able to express her vision through design. Fashion is very much about having a sense of proportion and being able to put things together in an original and interesting way”. Her main objective, she says is to always make the client look and feel like royalty. The designer recently showcased at Africa Fashion week, London and has dressed contestants for the “ACS Kings and Queens” Beauty Pageant, Miss Ghana UK and Miss Black Africa UK 2011. She was personally requested to style the amazing Ghanaian rapper “Tiffany” for her live performance at the 02. Her designs have also been used for photo shoots to advertise major up and coming events in the UK and has graced the covers of many a magazine. The coverage and interest in her latest Spring/Summer collection has seen this designer’s client base extend to France and Switzerland.
