 Atlanta GA, USA: Atlanta’s celebrities, VIPs, stars, idols, icons and legends from Black and Ethnic entertainment, film, fashion, television and the arts graced the 1^st Annual Atlanta Black Entertainment, Film, Fashion, Television & Arts Awards (BEFFTA Awards USA), which took place on Wednesday, February 23^rd 2011, in the Sidney Marcus Auditorium of the Georgia World Congress Center, Atlanta GA.

“As the world’s hotspot for black entertainment, film, fashion, television and the arts, it is only befitting that Atlanta was the first city in America to host the BEFFTA Awards USA and this is reflected in the calibre of the people who have participated in the event”, says Justina Mutale, Executive Producer of the BEFFTA Awards USA and CEO of Perryfield Promotions London, the co-orgnisers of the BEFFTA Awards USA.

Xernona Clayton

The BEFFTA Special Category award recipients included some of the most influential names and role models in the industry starting with Civil Rights legend and member of the Martin Luther King Team, Xernona Clayton who is also former CNN Executive and Founder, President & CEO of the Trumpet Awards, who received the Honorary BEFFTA Award as BEFFTA Civil Rights ICON; while Sachi Koto, Founder & President of Sachi Koto Communications and the Asian-American Association, received the BEFFTA Inspiration Award.  The legendary gospel singers, Blind Boys of Alabama were honored as BEFFTA Gospel Legends, while Hall of Fame Baseball Player, Hank Aaron received the BEFFTA Male Lifetime Achievement Award and his wife, Mrs. Billye Aaron received the BEFFTA Female Lifetime Achievement Award.

The Blind Boys of Alabama accept their BEFFTA USA Award as BEFFTA GOSPEL LEGENDS presented by The Hon. Senator Donzella James (35th District), Georgia State Senate, Atlanta GA.

 Founder of Radio One, Cathy Hughes was honored with the BEFFTA Pioneer Award for founding the first-ever black radio station and pioneering black radio and television, while Freddie Cole received the BEFFTA Jazz Legend Award. In addition, Kool and the Gang received the BEFFTA Old Skool Legends Award, while Hip-Hop Pioneer, Russell Simmons was honored as BEFFTA Hip-Hop ICON.

“We are delighted to make a breakthrough in the USA and to see that the BEFFTA Awards have been well received by the people of Atlanta and the rest of the USA” says Justina Mutale, Executive Producer of the BEFFTA Awards USA.

As the first-ever black model to grace the international runway, PEARL, who set the stage for other black models to follow by modeling for big names such as Givenchy in Paris and overseas at a time when no other black model had ever done so, received the BEFFTA Special Award as BEFFTA Model Legend Award, while 17 year old Tina Q received the BEFFTA Young Achiever Award.

Movie producer, actor and director, Tyler Perry; received three BEFFTA USA Awards as Best Film Actor; Best Film Producer and Best Film Director, while his film ‘For Colored Girls Only’ got Best Film and Actress Demetria McKinney, from Tyler Perry’s ‘House of Payne’ got the Award for Best TV Actress.  In addition, Celebrity Hair Stylist from Atlanta’s popular reality TV show, The Real Housewives of Atlanta, Dwight Eubanks received three Awards as Best Celebrity Wardrobe Stylist, Best Hairdresser and Best Make-up Artist and Atlanta’s popular video director, Gabriel Hart won Best Video Director. Leolah Brown, (Bobby Brown’s sister) who recently launched her new book “My Journey to God” got the Award for Best Motivational Author.
